CpE Student Scores “Best Presenter” Award in ICDIP 2020
The 2020 International Conference on Digital Image Processing (ICDIP 2020) awarded Emmanuel Luis D. Villanueva, a Computer Engineering graduating student of Mapúa University, the Best Presenter for his paper entitled “Determination of Pupillary Distance using YOLO Algorithm” which was held on May 19 to 22 at Osaka, Japan through Zoom online presentation.
The ICDIP is an annual event that aims to showcase innovations in image processing in different fields ranging from medical to environmental and everything in between. Mr. Villanueva was allowed to present his paper after a very strict review process. According to Villanueva, “my paper explains the importance of accurately determining the Pupillary Distance of a patient when prescription glasses are to be created for the patient and how to automate the said process.”
After his successful presentation to ICDIP 2020, he expressed how he felt amidst a crowd of Ph.D. holders. “I felt overwhelmed, mainly because I was presenting amongst colleagues that have PhDs or very well respected in the field of research and specifically image processing so it took me by surprise that I was selected as the best presenter.” His paper adviser was Noel Linsangan.
